The American Gas Association (AGA), founded in 1918, represents 195 local energy companies that deliver clean natural gas throughout the United States. There are more than 70 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S., of which 91 percent — more than 64 million customers — receive their gas from AGA members. Today, natural gas meets almost one-fourth of the United States' energy needs.
The American Public Power Association (APPA) is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that serve more than 45 million Americans. It was created in 1940 as a non-profit, non-partisan organization. Its purpose is to advance the public policy interests of its members and their consumers, and provide member services to ensure adequate, reliable electricity at a reasonable price with the proper protection of the environment.
Founded in 1881, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) is the authoritative resource on safe water, with more than 60,000 members worldwide sharing knowledge on water resource development, water and wastewater treatment technology, water storage and distribution, and utility management and operations. AWWA provides knowledge, information and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond and advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the water community. AWWA is an international nonprofit and educational society and the largest and oldest organization of water professionals in the world.
The Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG) is the trade association for companies that provide products and services in the areas of demand response, smart meters and smart grid technologies. DRSG works to educate and provide information to policymakers, utilities, the media, the financial community and stakeholders on how demand response and smart grid technologies such as smart meters can help modernize our electricity system and provide customers with new information and options for managing their electricity use.
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is the association of U.S. Shareholder-Owned Electric Companies. Our members serve 95 percent of the ultimate customers in the shareholder-owned segment of the industry, and represent approximately 70 percent of the U.S. electric power industry. Organized in 1933, EEI provides public policy leadership, critical industry data, market opportunities, strategic business intelligence, one-of-a-kind conferences and forums, and top-notch products and services.
The GridWise Alliance, founded in 2003, has developed into an organization that represents a broad range of the energy supply chain from utilities to large tech companies to academia to venture capitalists to emerging tech companies. This variety of stakeholders gives the Alliance a unique diversity of perspectives which enables interactive dialogue between members.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) is the national service organization dedicated to representing the national interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. NRECA’s more than 900 member cooperatives serve 42 million people in 47 states. Most of the 864 distribution systems are consumer-owned cooperatives; some are public power districts.
Utilimetrics is the world’s premier utility technology association, providing advocacy for utilities and information about innovative technologies that lead to improved operations, customer service and resource utilization. Its more than 1,400 members represent hundreds of utilities and corporations in gas, water and electric industries around the world. Members develop and implement automated resource-management technologies and participate in standardization and regulatory activities.
UCA International Users Group (UCAIUG) is a not-for-profit corporation focused on assisting users and vendors in the deployment of standards for real-time applications for several industries with related requirements. The Users Group does not write standards, however works closely with those bodies that have primary responsibility for the completion of standards (notably IEC TC 57: Power Systems Management and Associated Information Exchange).
The Utility Smart Access Network Port Alliance (U-SNAP) is an open industry association developing an industry standard for connecting energy aware consumer products with smart meters. Alliance membership is comprised of utilities, manufacturers, consultants and other parties interested in developing or deploying the standard.
ZigBee is the global wireless language connecting dramatically different devices to work together and enhance everyday life. The ZigBee Alliance is a non-profit association of more than 340 members driving development of ZigBee wireless technology. The Alliance promotes world-wide adoption of ZigBee as the leading wirelessly networked, sensing and control standard for use in consumer electronic, energy, home, commercial and industrial areas.
