Sensus designed and developed the iCon line of meters to integrate tomorrow’s communication technology while keeping yesterday’s reliability. iCon metering devices deliver a backbone of reliability and accuracy for a 20-year-plus life.

The iCon meter uses a Sentec sensor design based on Air Core Mutual Conductor technology. This design allows a low-cost method of achieving accuracy that exceeds ANSI C12.20, class 0.2 accuracy, a designation usually reserved for high-end meters. This technology is incorporated onto the main meter board, affixed to the meter base.

The iCon meter design features a second board for the display with integrated communication technology. Since the metered data is stored on the main board, the display board can be easily and quickly replaced in the field, without interrupting the metering values. More importantly, this design protects investment with future flexibility while maintaining metering integrity.

The iCon meter line is ideally suited to integrate into the Sensus FlexNet fixed base AMI solution. The FlexNet system is a tower-based AMI network not dependent on any other infrastructure. Sensus unmatched reliability is achieved with FlexNet by overlapping receiver coverage of metering end-points, data/message redundancy, and fail-over backup provisions. The FlexNet two-way communications network provides electric utilities with enhanced capabilities such as on-demand reads, remote demand register reset and remote shut-off.
